Shortly after the terrible events in New Zealand - Christchurch, there was a massive spike in islamaphobic crime in and around Birmingham, my home town. Many Muslims feared for their safety that a similar attack may inevitably happen here. During Friday prayers at my local mosque a volunteer announced that they would be locking entrances a few minutes before every prayer to prevent such attacks happening. A once peaceful and spiritual environment is now tainted with fear. many people started expressing their anger while others verbalised how important it is to be coherent and tolerating in a Muslim hating world. As an activist, I felt it was my duty to give these strangers a platform to freely voice their opinions. During the month of Ramadan, I went into the local community in the evening, when friends and family are enjoying their meals and the night vibes. I asked these strangers questions such as: What does peace look like to you? What does the month of Ramadan mean to you? Do you feel safe? What makes you happy? What upsets you?
