Ramadan is a special time for all Muslims across the globe but plays an even more special role for me. Ramadan helps to bring friends and family together, put differences aside, see the world as a bigger picture and how we can impact the way things are perceived. This video goes through a journey of the night before the final fast, how Coventry road in Birmingham is filled with men and women celebrating by sharing hot drinks, cold deserts and cheerful conversations that last until sunrise. The following segment of this short film is the night before Eid, this is called Chaand Raat (night of the new moon in Urdu) that marks the end of the 9th Islamic month, here you will find people completing their yearly Zakat (charity) as well as women decorating their hands and arms with Henna Mendhi, mums and dads buying outfits for their children to wear the following morning, most shops will stay open until the sun rises. The final segment is Eid. Over 140,000 people prayed together at Small Heath Park. Many people travel from different countries to be part of Europe's biggest Islamic gathering, the park is filled with family fun filled activities such as fun fairs, stalls that sell food, clothes and accessories as well as spaces for people to sit and relax. This is how I perceive Ramadan, in all its beauty and glory.
